With Twitter going the way of X (and my interest in using it disappearing quickly thereafter), my experiment with Blue Sky turning out to be short lived, and the freelance writer portfolio site I used suddenly changing most profiles private (including my own), I haven’t shared the handful of album reviews I have written for Point of Departure from this year. So now that the September issue has just dropped I figured it’s a good time to put links up to my reviews from this year in one shot. I’m not sure what I’ll be writing for the December issue, but stay tuned.
-Anthony Braxton, “Solo Bern 1984: First Visit,” Point of Departure, September 2024.

-Moppa Elliott’s Acceleration Due to Gravity, “Jonesville: Music By and For Sam Jones,” Point of Departure, March 2024.
-Rob Mazurek Exploding Star Orchestra/Small Unit, “Spectral Fiction,” Point of Departure, March 2024.
-Florian Stoffner/John Butcher/Chris Corsano, “Braids,” Point of Departure, March 2024.
And a couple more from the dying embers of 2023….
